LtL[j][k] += Lx[j]*Lx[k] + Ly[j]*Ly[k];

Here + (in +=) is not needed as LtL is not having any previous values but zeros.

Notice that this line is inside of a cycle which starts at the line 124. So LtL[j][k] has zeros only before the first iteration with i = 0. But then it is updated and accumulates a new value while iterating on i. So the current code is correct and this operator is needed.
