Discrete wavelet transform (Feature #1776)
Description
Why don't we have discrete wavelet transform functions for images,as it can be used for image denoising,edge detection and pattern recognition tasks?

FFTW until very recently was not GPL compliant, but there are libraries based on the project:
http://code.google.com/p/wavelet1d/
