this is the same as #4270 for branch '2.4' (2.4-dev) which contains a code analysis, a simple workaround and a proposal for fixing.

Cancelled? Why? I could provide a patch if it would make its way to 3.x

I am guessing that Vadim wants to restrict the amount of issues on the same topic. Could you provide your fix through a PR to the library?
